He has sucked in preseason so not that surprising. But he is 21 and will get his chance soon.

Well we didn't have any of our real good shooters like huberdeau. And we have always been one of the worst team to ever do shootouts!

Tallon talks out of both ends of his a_s about young players. Gilroy and Matoe haven't played in the nhl in yrs and are both old as dirt. Gilbert couldn't even get a contract as an ufa and now he's talked about as a top $ d-man alongside Campbell.
We got a new owner, now we need a new GM. Same old panthers. By the way, I'm a 20 yr season ticket holder. Shame on me.

Tallon does not talk out of his ass! He mentioned going with some youth because he was handcuffed by Viner. Now that it appears that we have a new ownership group,Tallon can spend some more money. The reports that I've read out of the NY post as well as the Sunsentinel, the (almost) new owner gave Tallon the green light to invite Gilbert,Boyes, and Thomas to camp. If you think those decisions were stupid that I'm glad you're not the GM. We all know Thomas is a future hall of famer who will do nothing but help out Markstrom and solidify our goaltending for this season. Immediate upgrade over Theo and Clemmer!
Boyes may not be Crosby or Malkin, but he brings a lot of experience to the team and many have said he's better than Mueller, and I liked Mueller. Gilbert is also an upgrade over Kuba and Jovo and can help prove our D. It's all options. With these players plus the youth playing for jobs, it gives us options. I love what Tallon has done and hopefully this new ownership group is serious about winning and Tallon can add some real talent during trade deadlines and free agency.

Ever heard of having some depth? You already forget last year and how everyone was hurt? Petro just isn't ready yet it has really shown this preseason, why rush him if he isn't ready.

#1 other Gm's didn't want Boyes or Gilbert enough to give them a contract, but Tallon does, PLEASE

Petrovic did not shine, but its not yet his time. (see how that worked?) Mike Caruso was sent down also, its Colby Robak's turn. I liked his play last season. Fast, hard shot, big, big hitter, who also can take a big hit. Gilbert has not yet made the team. He had a goal but was also -3 the other night. With Robak up, and Strachan gone we will need bodies in San Antonio, thats where I see a lot of our signings headed to strengthen that team and teach the kids down there.

No worries on shootouts, Huberdeau has not played yet and Coach has been doing some experimenting. Barkov and Huberdeau are like dreams on the shootout. We will have Versteeg back, Flash, Campbell, Kulikov, lots of better options than what we are showing right now.

I like Boyes a lot. He and Butler look to be big upgrades at right wing, as much as I miss Skille. Should be an interesting season.

First off we haven't even given them contracts so I'm not sure where your getting your info! It's called a try out if they suck they don't get a contract. And if you didn't know the cap went down and teams are not spending like they were. And also the Islanders said they would give boyes a contract if he couldn't find somewhere to sign.

Thank you!! Just because we bring in players on PTO that doesn't get other offers ( that we know of) doesn't make them bad players.
From what I've read, Gilbert is a good defender. We NEED good defenders. We lost Kuba,Strachen, and Jovo is likely out. Having Gibert and Robak gives us depth and options. Petro can always be called up if needed.

I wish some people understood hockey.

So, you want the GM's that paid too much money on an 8 year contract for Horton? Or Bryzgalov when Philly signed him? How about Luongo's 10 year contract that even Lu doesn't like?

I'm happy with Tallon. He's building a winner here like he did in Chicago. Hopefully this new ownership group gives Tallon deep pockets to spend on great UFa's next offseason. I think bringing in Boyes,Gilbert, and Thomas on tryouts and then a contract if they earn them is a great idea. Bring in players who have had success to help mold our youth and fill the gap until Bjugstad,Petro and the rest of our youth are ready to step in.

People have to see the entire picture, and not what's reported in the paper. I will hit on the owner situation first. Nothing is conclusive right now. And if you think a new owner means no more Yormark, think again. The new owner being mentioned in whispers is connected directly to one Brett Yormark who, is in fact, Michal Yormarks brother. He stays put.

I stopped reading all the negative stuff that guy was posting above me about halfway through because it's Monday and I just don't feel like reading it.. but he alluded to Tallon not being a good GM. Uhhhhhhhh what? Did you see some of the contracts signed this off season? Horton, Clarkson, Weiss (although his wasn't terrible). Look at some of the money these RFA's are getting. Tallon has positioned us just right. Petrovic needs one more solid AHL season and then he comes up after this year when/if Weaver isn't resigned. That's just how it's gonna go. We'll see Bjugstad full time when Goc's contract expired after this season. Some of the guys Tallon has brough in like Boyes and Gomez have been the best looking guys on the ice. Bobby Butler and Jesse Winchester are both playing damn good hockey. And the reason, good sir, that we made the signings of guys like Mottau... it's "Mottau" by the way, not Motoe... and Gilroy, is so that when a D man goes down; and they will, we don't have to call up Petrovic or Racine. We can give them the proper time to develop properly. Same goes for offense. Let Bjugstad and Howden develop while we have Butler, Crabb, and Winchester. This is something we haven't done before and it will be CRITICAL come playoff time so have as many healthy bodies as possible.

The one area he did get a bit lazy on is goaltending. However, I expect Thomas to sign and start with Markstrom backing him up. A solid season of 25-30 starts behind Tim Thomas? Yes, please. He can get as pissy as he wants but he hasn't had the chance to be a back up goaltender.. why should he be a starting one?

Although, I don't think both Bergenheim and Versteeg will be healthy on opening night. If I had to guess, I'd say Versteeg is. But look at that, we can call up Bobby Butler or Joey Crabb. No need to bring in a kid.

Actually I think Selleck gets in. We need a tough guy to step up for the smaller guys. I also think Trocheck may get his 9 game NHL shot. Not sure who sits. Bergy and Jovo will probably begin season on IR and be inserted when healthy.

The only guy I can really see sitting would be Drew Shore. But he's been one of the best looking skaters I've seen all pre season. I'm glad I don't make these decisions.

Steven Pinizzotto? I think he would be a better fit then selleck.

Actually Selleck has been sent to AHL. Pinizzotto will be as well. Look for Winchester or Butler to make it as both of them are feisty and can play a great two-way game. The brass LOVES Winchester. Like.. too much. But he's looked great.

Yeah I didn't mean to put Bergenheim there. Bergy won't play opening night. Matthias slots in there and Butler plays on the 4th line.

The wings might be off because idk who plays on the left or right but thats the team I think well be seeing. I think trocheck will be the first call up. Crabb will be on our 4th line for good since hes on a one way contract and we need a fighter. He'll only sit out as a healthy scratch from time to time.

Okay well let me make some corrections here. First off, Matthias will NOT be the #1 center on this team. Not gonna happen. He will play wing on the 2nd/3rd line because Drew Shore will be playing center on the 3rd/4th line. Gomez will be the 2nd line center if Dineen has any brains. The centers will be Barkov, Gomez, Shore, Goc. Most likely in that order. Matthias is a better winger and Shore is just a natural center.

We won't be seeing Gilroy because A) he hasn't been playing or practicing at all and B) Mike Mottau and Alex Petrovic are ahead of him on the chart. Crabb won't fight and we will see him and Bobby Butler or Jesse Winchester dress for 4th line time. I think it will be Winchester because the coaching staff love him.

I think we will see Winchester and Butler a bit. Winchester a bit more.
